MY STORY

Tačka povratka Epizoda 77: Aleksandar Šoškić

Originally from Peć, Serbia, I spent my formative years in Germany. I enjoyed a functional system that allowed me to grow quickly, however, within strict boundaries. Fuelled by the resourcefulness I inherited from the region I come from, I very early developed the urge to step outside these boundaries. In engineering I found a way of doing so: it allowed me to build, repair and improve whatever I had in mind. Guided by a great mentor, I discovered product management in 2018, which allowed me to apply a comprehensive view on products and has been my professional focus ever since.

I think ahead and get things done.

As a product manager, you need to understand what the code is doing. You need to have a sense of design. You need to get along with all kinds of people. You need to be able to answer your questions with data. You need to be informed - about everything that's going on around you. You have to be willing to compromise. On the one hand you have to have a strong opinion - on the other hand you have to be able to question and change it. You have to be able to look at your product from the perspective of its users. You need to be an authority to your stakeholders and your team - you need to be trusted. You have to make sure that your product makes money sooner or later. In short: you need to be a full stack business person.
